Windows Genuine Advantage Notifications

I am running a Windows XP SP3 VM used for testing multiple versions of InternetExplorer through Virtualbox.

Running this wizard should be avoided if Windows is in a VirtualMachine.

The WGA check detects the VM environment and flags the installation as non-genuine, even if you have a valid license key. Once triggered, you get persistent nag popups and your desktop wallpaper goes black. If you accidentally ran it, you can remove the WGA notification tool by booting into Safe Mode and deleting WgaLogon.dll and WgaTray.exe from System32. The better approach is to just dismiss or block the WGA update entirely — it’s not needed for IE testing purposes and only causes headaches in virtual environments.
